This was a great book and a great introduction to a fun and interesting series! I loved all of the characters and the storyline with the concept of the first female Grim Reaper. When Cendall first had feelings for the Guardian (guardian angel), Trevor, I thought, "Oh no! She's going to rip off Charmed! But, to my relief, it became more than just feelings for the opposition when an arranged marriage is announced. Thus it made her life more complicated, in addition to breaking almost all of the rules, she learned in training. The book held my interest from start to finish and I look forward to book 2.This is easily a 5 Star story, however, due to errors that should have been caught by Author, Editor or Beta readers, before publication, made me drop one star. Here are two examples of the errors...
The first one comes from Chapter 6...
The blonde Guardian smiles as he congratulated his other brothers and pulled pieces of the truck's grill out of his skin.
My mouth began to water and a shiver went up my spine as I watched him laughing with his colleges at this brush with death.
In the second sentence, the word 'colleges' should be 'colleagues', as she is referring to a group of people whom she referred to as 'brothers' in the first sentence.
The second one is found in Chapter 8...
Two of the last three Guardians fell as a Demon came down like a Toronto from the sky onto them.
Here, the word 'Toronto' should be 'tornado'. Because it is capitalized like the proper name of the country.
These, and other mistakes, should have been caught and corrected before publication. If this story wasn't as good as it was, I wouldn't have stopped reading after chapter 8. Aside from these errors, I would highly recommend this story for fans of the TV show, Charmed, or anyone who likes taking the basic Reaper character and giving it a twist!

Cendall is the only female reaper & after graduating at the top of her class she & all of the rest who also graduated are then tasked with 200 souls to collect. Cendall's 1st soul is that of a girl who can see not only guardians but can also see demons & reapers too & this soul is named Lacie.
One of the demons let it slip that Lacie is part of some prophecy & that is why they are after her & also explains why she also has so many guardians watching over her &/or helping her main guardian Trevor.
Cendall wind up only taking 197 souls as besides Lacie the 2 other souls per Cendall didn't feel like they were supposed to die.
This book has some fast-paced action & a very good plot which makes this a very good book & that's why I'm going to also read the next book in this series.
This was a delightful and refreshing paranormal read that took a look at some beasties we normally don't see in the spotlight. Reapers. As in Grim Reapers. You know, that scary figure in the black hooded robes holding a scythe in a skeletal hand.
Author Candice Burnett gave us a whole new way to look at Reapers and how they work. It brought to mind a TV show I once loved to watch, Dead Like Me.
This is a YA novel with the potential as a series to veer into New Adult and even Adult depending on how far the author carries the story line out. There was just enough teenage excitement and angst to make it feel believable for a teen's first romantic entanglements. Raging hormones and wild thoughts, all of that. But it for sure wasn't the focus. Oh no.
This story follows Cendall, the first ever female Reaper, and her challenges as she takes to the job field. She's young, 16-17 in this first installment, so the story reads in her POV with teenage thoughts in mind. Slang you might not otherwise see fits because of her personality and age. A few times I did find the slang inappropriate. Such as "WTF" in speech. Does anyone actually say the letters? Or "OMG" too? But beyond that, nothing really jolted me out of the moment.
This story kept me intrigued whenever I got the chance to pick it up, and it only took me as long as it did because of real life issues taking priority over my reading time. The story flowed nicely, balancing action with slower lulls of world and character building. There were times I felt some of the characters acted immature for their age/position, but as a whole I did enjoy the banter and camaraderie between them.
I'm looking forward to reading more about Cendall and her friends in future books, to see where she ends up. I see lots of adventure ahead for this Reaper!
Death Has A Daughter is a great read that did well in holding my attention as I turned through the pages of the novel.
Cendall, is the only female Grim Reaper in history, and she has just taken first rank in her graduating class. Each graduating student is given a list of souls to collect upon graduation and the souls listed are based on where they placed during graduation. Cendall’s list is special though since she was first rank.
Her journey finds her searching for the soul a girl named Lacie. Cendall finds Lacie and quickly finds out that this girl is not just another soul to collect; she has powerful Guardians protecting her.
The interaction between the Reapers, who collect souls at vulnerable points, and the Guardians, who protect humans from death as long as possible has been tense ever since the world began. The interaction Cendall is getting ready to undergo though is quite different.
Cendall is immediately confronted by Trevor while searching for the vulnerable moment in Lacie’s life. It is then that Cendall finds out that Lacie is not just a normal little girl, but a prophecy of sorts. The Guardians seek to protect Lacie while Demons seek to drag her to the pits of hell. Where does Cendall fit into all of this though? She will find out soon enough.
There were a few minor typos and grammatical issues in the book.
5 out of 5 Stars. A well written young adult paranormal novel. I look forward to more books in the Death Has a Daughter Series.
